Delivering Lecture by Toyoaki Yamauchi, President of IRID [SMiRT27 (27th International Conference on Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology)] (March 6, 2024)

The 27th International Conference on Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology (SMiRT 27) was held in Yokohama, Japan from March 3 to March 8, 2024, in order to discuss next generation structural mechanics in reactor technology as the main theme of the conference. This international conference was organized by the International Association for SMiRT (IASMiRT) and the Japan Association for SMiRT (JASMiRT) as well as Atomic Energy Society of Japan in cooperation with relevant organizations from overseas and Japan.

On Day 4, in March 6, 2024, Toyoaki Yamauchi, President of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) delivered a lecture titled on IRID’s R&D Result for Fukushima Daiichi Decommissioning and Future Challenge & Expectations at the special session which covered the current status of Fukushima Daiichi decommissioning: issues and perspectives.

After the lecture, he discussed a concept of fuel debris retrieval and international corporation for the Fukushima Daiichi decommissioning with other speakers of the special session from Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Holdings, Inc. and Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation (NDF) at the panel discussion.
