Ms. Masako Mori, Member of the House of Councilors, and Mr. Michael Lee, Mansfield Fellow, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, observed the access and investigation apparatus, the robot arm and the enclosure for detailed investigation inside PCV and trial fuel debris retrieval for Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2. On December 21 2023, Ms. Masako Mori, Member of the House of Councilors, and Mr. Michael Lee, U.S. Department of Homeland Security visited the Naraha Center for Remote Control Technology Development, which is owned by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Currently, Mr. Lee has stayed in Japan as a fellow of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation. He and Ms. Mori visited the JAEA Naraha Center to observe the access and investigation apparatus (the robot arm and the enclosure) for detailed investigation inside the primary containment vessel (PCV) and the trial fuel debris retrieval for Unit 2 of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
