A Keynote Lecture by Mr. N. Okuzumi at the Tsuruga Decommissioning Seminar

The University of Fukui adopted the Human Resource Development and Research Program for Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS), a national program instituted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). As part of the program, the University of Fukui held the Tsuruga Decommissioning Seminar, which was a research briefing session regarding nuclear decommissioning technology, fuel debris analysis, and human resource cultivation for the Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

A keynote lecture was delivered by Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of the Research and Development (R&D) Strategy Planning Department of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), titled “Status of the Decommissioning Technology Development for the Fukushima Daiichi NPS Conducted by IRID.” He presented an overview of IRID and reported on the investigation status of the primary containment vessel (PCV), R&D status, and safety management concepts for fuel debris retrieval, including robotic technology developed by IRID.

IRID is committed to providing opportunities to various people to promote the R&D for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
