Lecture by Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of Planning and Administration Department at the 2023 Fall Meeting of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan

The Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ) organized the 2023 Fall Meeting which was held at Higashiyama Campus, Nagoya University on September 7, 2023. As part of the operation and power subcommittee session for the Decommissioning Efforts at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS), Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of the Planning and Administration, the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a lecture titled “Overview of IRID R&D”.
At the lecture, he introduced investigation inside the primary containment vessel conducted by IRID until now and status of technological development for fuel debris retrieval. The operation and power subcommittee session was attended by a wide variety of people from companies and organizations including the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, utility companies, reactor manufacturers and construction companies. A question and answer session was organized for participants after the lecture and many participants were interested in topics of the lecture and asked questions.
IRID will promote providing information on results of technological development for the decommissioning through these lectures.
