Lecture at the Storage-Transport Expert Panel of the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum by Toyoaki Yamauchi, President of IRID

Toyoaki Yamauchi, President of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a lecture at the 123rd Storage-Transport Expert Panel on September 12, 2023, which was organized by the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF), Inc. At the Storage-Transport Expert Panel held online, he talked about Japanese trends and status of nuclear backend measures (including the fuel cycle policy) in major countries.
President Yamauchi highlighted the Japanese trends of backend measures including recycle of nuclear fuel, high-and-low levels radioactive waste, decommissioning of normal nuclear power plants, progress and the organizational structure of the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to treat waste generated from the use of nuclear technology in safe and effective manners as well as the status of backend measures in major countries. The lecture was attended by about 45 people who are mainly from companies in nuclear related industries. After the lecture, participants asked various questions such as a new approach to the decommissioning in Japan and human resource development in the nuclear industry, and there was an active exchange of opinions.
IRID will promote providing information on IRID activities through lectures in external organizations.
