Participation in Science Agora 2015 (Nov. 14-15, 2015)
-Introduction of Robots for Nuclear Decommissioning and Announcement of IRID’s R&D Achievements-

IRID members Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, Ltd. and ATOX CO.Ltd exhibited and demonstrated robots for nuclear decommissioning at a booth run by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), in Science Agora 2015 held for three days of November 13-15, 2015.
In the session “Challenge Nuclear Decommissioning” on November15, Hirohisa Kuwabara, General Manager of IRID R&D Strategy Planning Department, gave a lecture titled “Current Status and Issues of R&D for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS)”. Mr. Shunsuke Ito from the Engineering Research & Development Center of ATOX CO.Ltd participated as a panelist in the panel discussion with students engaging in basic research for decommissioning technology.

 Exhibition and demonstration of a shape-changing robot (prototype) that investigated inside the
 primary containment vessel (PCV) at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS

○ATOX CO.Ltd (November 15)
 Exhibition of a part of compact remotely-operated decontamination equipment, RACCOON, which
 decontaminated the first floor of the reactor building at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
 (NPS) Unit 2 and introduction of videos showing the equipment
 Experience in remotely operating compact equipment for underwater inspection and cleaning

 Visualization of the inside of the reactor using muon particles”

IRID will continue to exhibit and explain the achievements of its R&D projects at various events etc.
