Participation in ‘Science Agora 2016’ (November 5-6, 2016)
~ Decommissioning Robots Exhibition and Presentation of Overview of R&D Issues ~

IRID members ATOX, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Toshiba exhibited and demonstrated decommissioning robots at a booth set up by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) over a two-day period at the ‘Science Agora 2016’ held over for four days between November 3-6, 2016.

In addition, Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of the R&D Planning Department at IRID, delivered a lecture entitled ‘An Overview of R&D Issues to be Addressed in Decommissioning’ as the part of the ‘Discussion of the Current Status of Decommissioning’ session held on November 6 and also answered questions from participants.

Exhibition and demonstration of “Tank Cleaning Device’, a robot developed to remove
accumulated deposits at the bottom of the flange tank installed at the Fukushima Daiichi
Nuclear Power Station (NPS) by remote operation under water.
O MHI (November 6)
Exhibition and demonstration of ‘Sakura 2’ (explosion-proof specification) to collect information
from the surrounding environment at the disaster sites with high travelling performance.
O Toshiba (November 5 and 6)
Exhibition of a “remotely operated robot (known as the ‘Scorpion Robot’) for investigation
inside the PCV at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
