A Small-Workshop at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (December 26, 2018)
The International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) held a Small-Workshop in cooperation with the Tokyo Institute of Technology at the Forum for Nuclear Decommissioning Technology and Human Resource Development, which was organized by the Tokyo Institute of Technology on December 26, 2018. This was the third time that IRID held a workshop with the Tokyo Institute of Technology. It was attended by approximately 70 people, including IRID members, academics, participants from industry, and teachers and students from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
The workshop featured presentations on the “Status of Technology Development for the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS) Conducted by IRID” by Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of IRID’s R&D Planning Department, and on the “Detailed Investigation Inside the Primary Containment Vessel (PCV) at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS: Status of Development of Submersible Boat” by Mr. Hirofumi Kinoshita, Deputy General Manager of the R&D Planning Department (Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, Ltd.). In addition, representatives from the Tokyo Institute of Technology delivered lectures on human resource development activities and on fundamental studies undertaken by the University. The question and answer session included discussions on research activities to exchange opinions on the development of human resources for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
This activity helped the promotion of cooperation with Universities that are engaged in the research study on the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS, and provided a valuable opportunity for the enhancement of communication with young researchers.
IRID continues to promote positive cooperation with Universities.
Date and time: Wednesday, December 26, 2018, 13:00–17:30
Place: Ookayama Campus, Tokyo Institute of Technology
Purpose: To proceed with the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS – a task that is expected to be completed in approximately 30 years – and to pursue other R&D projects, it is essential to secure and develop mid-and-long-term human resource frameworks. This workshop was intended to promote cooperation with Universities and develop young talent through the exchange of opinions and information with the Tokyo Institute of Technology, which has undertaken the Program for Nuclear Decommissioning and Human Resources Development, which is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
