Lecture by Dr. Tamio Arai [Introduction to Robots for Nuclear Decommissioning at the Department of Informatics, Faculty of Engineering, Kindai University]

The Department of Informatics, Faculty of Engineering, Kindai University features lectures for the third year students by specialists who are active in various industries as part of the subject “Organization activities and information systems”. For one of those lectures, Dr. Tamio Arai, Vice President of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), presented on “Robots and Technology for Nuclear Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS)” on January 16, 2018.

Dr. Arai described the implemented robots at the time of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS accident, the investigation inside the primary containment vessel (PCV) using robots and its issues, a robotic design concept and the long-term human resources development towards the decommissioning. During the last part of the lecture, he emphasized to students the expectations on students. The lecture was attended by ninety students from the Department of Informatics who listened with keen interests.
