Guest Lecture by IRID’s Kazuhito Yokoi at National Institute of Technology, Oyama College (Dec. 8, 2014)

On Dec 8, 2014, Kazuhito Yokoi, General Manager of the IRID Development Planning Office, delivered a lecture at National Institute of Technology, Oyama College (Oyama City, Tochigi) on the current status of development of robots used at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. As requested by the college’s Mechanical Engineering Department, the lecture was designed with the development of younger generations in mind, as they will assume a leading role in R&D in future.

More than 50 students and teachers participated in the first session of the lecture, listening intently to information on the current status of decommissioning at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and robotics development. In the second session, students demonstrated robots they had created at the laboratories of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and Mechanical Engineering Department. After the demonstration, students asked many questions, such as “What makes a good scientist?”, “What should we do first when we make a robot?”, and “What are the countermeasures taken to deal with radiation noise?”, which was then followed by an exchange of opinions.

Date and time: Mon, Dec. 8, 2014, 16:30-18:30
