Mr. Hirohisa Kuwabara, General Manager of the R&D Strategy Planning Dept., gives lecture on Nuclear Science and Technology for Decommissioning

The Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Units 1-4, describes initiatives to “develop human resources and partner with universities and research organizations from a mid/long-term standpoint.” In order to promote these initiatives, the “Enhanced Program for Nuclear Decommissioning Research and Human Resources Development” of the “Initiatives for Nuclear Science and Technology and Human Resources Development by Drawing on International Knowledge and Expertise” was established for investment in national competitiveness.
Tohoku University has been addressing issues based on the program since FY2014, as commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
As part of this program, the “Nuclear Science and Technology for Decommissioning” intensive course was created in FY2016. Mr. Hirohisa Kuwabara, General Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department, delivered a lecture for this course entitled “Current R&D Status and Challenges for Decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi” on September 15. Additionally, Mr. Miyamoto, General Manager of the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation (NDF), also delivered a lecture entitled “Technology Strategy Plan for Decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi 2016” on the same day.
