Mr. Kuwabara, General Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department, Delivering Lecture, [KAST Educational Seminar: “Starting with ‘Decommissioning’ as a New Step”]

Mr. Hirohisa Kuwabara, General Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department at IRID, delivered a lecture to introduce IRID activities entitled “What technologies are required for ‘decommissioning’ of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS)?”, as a part of an educational seminar “Starting with ‘Decommissioning’ as a new step”, organized by Kanagawa Academy of Science and Technology (hereinafter, KAST), and co-organized by IRID.
This educational seminar is part of the specialized courses, which KAST offers researchers and engineers, especially in four fields; advanced manufacturing, interdisciplinary fusion and environment & energy, etc. This seminar was planned as an environment & energy course.
The seminar was successfully attended by about 140 people, which significantly exceeded the expected number of 100 people. In the Q&A session after the lecture, the audience enthusiastically participated and asked questions such as, “Which are the limitations in development of decommissioning technology?”, and “Considering the long-term nature of decommissioning projects, what can we do to pass them on to younger generations?”, etc.
IRID is committed to promoting positive cooperation with colleges, universities and research institutes through various lectures.
